Hi,
My name is Jen Carda, and I teach at Bellevue East High School. I have been at East for 8 years and my first year in Bellevue I spent at Logan Fontanelle. I teach Sports Medicine, Health and Aquatics. I am a mother, wife, Certified Athletic Trainer, Teacher and I am Canadian. I grew up on the East Coast of Canada. I am from Newfoundland, a big island in the North Atlantic. My parents live in New Brunswick, which is right above Maine and I went to Acadia University in Nova Scotia for my undergrad. I did my Masters in West Virgina. I am planning on beginning a second Masters program in K-12 counseling in the fall. I am also the Certified Athletic Trainer for all of the high school athletes. This means that I am the health care professional who takes care of the injuries and rehabs all the athletes and tries to kept them healthy and safe.
My experience with technology is somewhat limited. I am not very savvy when it comes to technology. I get frustrated easily. I would say that I am a Mac person. I have a Mac at home and I love it. I am learning to use iphoto and I have a me.com website and gallery for my pictures. There are so many more things that I need to figure out with our mac but I just haven't had the time to play with all the gadgets. In my classroom I use alot of powerpoint in my discussion with my students. In my sports medicine program I try to use video clips to help illustrate injuries and the mechanisms that cause them. My students really appreciate the visual demonstration but I would like to be able to embed those videos into my presentations.
Finally, I have two children, Jack and Annie. Jack is 4 and quite a comedian and Annie is 19months and she is very determined. My husband is John and he is also a teacher and athletic trainer in another school district. Last year I accomplished a life long dream of going to the Olympics. I was selected to work at the Vancouver Olympic Games as part of the medical staff. In the summer we leave Nebraska around the 1st of June and drive east. We spend some time in Pennsylvania at the International Gymnastics Training Camp, where my husband and I work as Athletic Trainers and then head on up to Canada to spend the rest of the summer with my family. We usually head back to Nebraska at the end of July. I am looking forward to starting our journey to head "East to the Sea". (one of my favorite bedtime story books).
